Mission Statement: To preserve, protect and provide military research and memorabilia of the US armed forces for all war periods and conflicts. Revolutionary War to Persian Gulf War.

Use of the Collection: Archives accessible by appointment. No electronic access. Will respond to written inquiries within approximately one week. Due to lack of space in current quarters and newness of museum "large quantities" of uncatalogued drawings, photos and documents are still in storage. Plans are being explored relative to moving the museum to a large land based structure in Quincy. A request to research these in-storage archives for a specific subject will generally be honored.

Photocopies: $0.25/pg. At present no facilities for printing photos or copying drawings. Capability will be available in near future.

Collection Content:

  • General areas - Weaponry: missiles, bombs, cannons, rockets, small arms, mines. Uniforms, plaques, trophies and medals.
  • Library - 3,000 volumes. (see also "Use of the Collection")
  • Models - 7 displayed including USS BAINBRIDGE and USS S-50 Class Submarine, 20 stored.
  • Full scale historical vessels - Museum located on board Des Moines Class heavy cruiser USS SALEM. Launched in 1947, she served until 1959, mostly in the Mediterranean, often as flagship to the sixth fleet.
