Mission Statement: To educate the public on the importance of the destroyer in the US history and of Louisiana's nautical heritage.
Use of the Collection: Archives not presently set up for research. No access to archives. No copies of archival material provided.
Collection Content:
- General areas - WWII; Fletcher Class destroyers, Flying Tigers. Louisiana maritime history. Revolutionary War-present.
- Library - 500 volumes, 2,600 vessel technical drawings, 100 vessel photos, 5,000 documents. Includes Fletcher Class ship histories.
- Paintings - 1 portrait of Gen. Claire Chennault. Also several prints of WWII and river steamboats
- Models - 41 displayed, 10 stored: full display, admiralty and cutaway. Ranges from British navy, early American navy, Civil War, WWII to modern commerce vessels. Included are builder's models of:
- USS KIDD (DD-661)
- USS KIDD (DDG-993)
- USS NEW ORLEANS (CA-32)
- USS LOUISIANA (BB-71)
- Full scale historic vessel -
- USS KIDD (DD-661) - WWII Fletcher Class destroyer restored to 1945 configuration.
