Bob Filipowski - Ship Model Project Photos

I prefer solid hull models, and enjoy modifying kits into unique, but historically correct configurations. I've been modeling in one form or another since I was in third grade. I am now retired. I've been a NRG member for approximately 20 years.

New England Fishing Pinky

1/4" scale - Marine Models Kit

18" long x 16" high

This pinky was, originally, a Marine Models kit.  It is based on plate 6 in Chapelle's American Fishing Schooners.  Extensive hull reshaping was required.  All deck furniture was scratch built.  Two actual three-strand Turk's head knots were woven on the tiller bar.  The masts and rigging are based on a model by Erik Ronnberg Jr.  The green is custom mixed, and the hull bottom was painted with Floquil's Marine colors Tar.  The 12' dory is based on plans in John Gardiners work The Dory Book.
